Designing a living room is designing the heart of the home: the space we use the most (at least while we’re awake) and the one our guests enjoy the most. Nowadays, the living–dining–kitchen layout forms the so-called open concept, which organises the entire daytime living area of a home. In small apartments it is almost essential, and in villas it allows for wonderfully spacious, flowing interiors.
I have designed almost a hundred living rooms: some involving full renovations and others focused solely on furnishing and decoration. There are elements that always remain the same: functional principles and ergonomic measurements. Beyond that, each starting space and each family, with their own lifestyle, shape the path of every project. And that brings us to style. Stay away from fashions. With my clients, I like to talk about timeless concepts and trends, not fashions. Trends are long-term shifts: evolutions in aesthetics or functionality that adapt to modern lifestyles and technologies. The client always comes first, but I do have a preferred style — the one that most often responds best to our time, our culture and Marbella’s climate: Mediterranean minimalism, a local interpretation of more international styles such as Japandi or Wabi-Sabi.
Of course, all of this is just words, theory. A good starting point, yes, but of little value if everything is not integrated with the greatest possible harmony that your budget allows.
We are now open to projects for 2026, provisionally until the end of February. If you like what you see, don’t hesitate to get in touch: you may be just one step away from starting your renovation.
